“November” Album Review

One year after SiR officially signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, November has arrived.

The album is already receiving praise from TDE fans and critics alike. The 31-year-old Inglewood artist, SiR, blends aspects of soul and r&b with a modern, dark twist. Other than two features from ScHoolboy Q and Etta Bond, November is SiR’s project which allows the listener to really become acquainted with the artist.

Even if you’re not a big r&b fan, November is definitely worth checking out. Any fan of TDE would appreciate the album’s complexity.

New Drake EP

Last night, Drizzy Drake released an EP, Scary Hours, which comprises of two tracks.

The first song, “God’s Plan,” has all the aspects of a Drake song that you’d expect. The second, “Diplomatic Immunity,” has more of an orchestral vibe to it. I’m not a huge fan of Drake because he usually doesn’t put much thought into his lyrics, but “Diplomatic Immunity” pleasantly surprised me. It’s basically four and a half minutes of Drake venting over a well-made instrumental.

New Russ Track “Alone”

Russ is kicking off the new year the right way. After releasing a new music video last week for “Flip” (which I wasn’t a fan of), Russ comes through with another track. This time, the song’s production was handled by frequent collaborator, Scott Storch.

The retro, 80’s, synthesizer euro-pop style instrumental pairs perfectly with Russ’s signature vocals creating a sort of etherial electronic pop sound.

Justin Timberlake “Supplies” Video

With Man of the Woods on the horizon, Timberlake comes through with another single from his upcoming album. This Neptunes-produced track is a great follow-up to “Filthy” which was released earlier this month.

New Track From Jon Connor!

I’m so excited right now!

It’s been almost a year since the soon-to-be-legendary emcee, Jon Connor, released a song. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of his upcoming major label debut, Vehicle City, which is reportedly coming soon.

When Dr. Dre is the first voice you hear on a track, you know you’re in for a treat. “I’M BACK” (appropriately titled) is a glimpse into the lyrical warfare that is about to begin when Jon’s album drops.

Listen to “I’M BACK” below and be sure to check out my other articles about Connor.

TDE Producing “Black Panther” Soundtrack

King Kendrick Lamar’s producing the score for the upcoming Marvel film, Black Panther.

Kendrick, along with TDE’s Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, are working closely with the production crew to deliver what will surely be a crazy soundtrack.

“Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director,” Kendrick said in a press release, via The Verge. “The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside [director Ryan Coogler] and Marvel’s vision.”

Today, the first single from Black Panther: The Album arrived. The track features TDE labelmates SZA and Kendrick Lamar working with the type of flawless chemistry that only Top Dawg artists are capable of. Hopefully, this is only one of many Top Dawg Entertainment collaborations on the soundtrack. I’d love to see a Black Hippy track on the album.

In 2003, Eminem became the first-ever MC to take home an Oscar for Best Original Song. Since then, fewer than 10 rap artists have taken their victory lap on the Academy Awards stage. We all know that TDE’s no stranger to awards and recognition so maybe this soundtrack will join the ranks.

Listen to the new single “All The Stars” below and check out Black Panther when it hits theaters on February 16th.
